The Grumpy Mustache in Murrells Inlet: A Restaurant Worth the Drive from Myrtle Beach

When we travel, we like to experience more than just the main tourist attractions. That includes finding great places to eat outside of the areas where most visitors tend to spend their time.
Friends recommended The Grumpy Mustache in Murrells Inlet to us, so we met them there for dinner while we were visiting the Myrtle Beach area.
The Grumpy Mustache is outside the main tourist areas of Myrtle Beach, but it certainly isn't an unknown little restaurant. With a 4.8-star rating and more than 450 Google reviews, plenty of people have already discovered it.
After eating there ourselves, we could see why.
Our Visit to The Grumpy Mustache

We were greeted quickly when we walked in and were seated right away. Our server brought our drinks out quickly, and from the beginning, the service was great.
She knew the menu very well and had some great suggestions when we were trying to decide what to order. We ended up trying a few things she recommended along with several things we picked out ourselves.
We also had our teenage son and his friend with us. One of the fun parts of this vacation was watching his friend branch out and try several foods he had never tried before, and this ended up being another great opportunity for that.

There were so many things on the menu that sounded good that we decided to order several different things and share some of them around the table.

Starting With the Appetizers
We started with the Balls of Meat and the Basket of Curds.
The Balls of Meat were served in red sauce with Parmesan and toasted bread. They came out hot, and the sauce paired really well with both the meatballs and the bread.
The Basket of Curds gave us plenty of fried cheese curds to share around the table. They were hot and crispy on the outside with delicious, ooey gooey melted cheese inside, and they disappeared pretty quickly.
Everything tasted freshly prepared, and both appetizers were a great start to the meal.
You Can't Ignore the Fries
They had several different fries on the menu, but we decided to try the Detroit Fries and Poutine Fries.
The Detroit Fries came loaded with chili, cheese, onions, and mustard. There was plenty of topping throughout the basket, so these were definitely more than a basic side of fries.
The Poutine Fries were another one we wanted to try, especially since our son's friend had never had poutine before. They came covered in gravy and cheese curds and gave him another new food to try during the trip.
Between both orders of fries, we had plenty for everyone to share and try some of each.
Burgers, Cheesesteak, and Carolina Dogs
For our main dishes, we tried The Basic Burger, The Marshall Mathers Burger, Da Philly Cheesesteak, and the Carolina Dogs.
The Basic Burger may be one of the simpler choices on the menu, but sometimes you just want a good burger without a lot of extras. It came with the traditional burger toppings, melted cheese, and fries.
The Marshall Mathers Burger was a completely different choice and one of the more distinctive burgers we tried. Between the two burgers, we were able to try two very different options from the menu. Both burgers were delicious.
Da Philly Cheesesteak came piled high on a perfectly toasted bun with plenty of meat, cheese, mushrooms, and onions. It was a generous portion with plenty of filling throughout the sandwich.
The Carolina Dogs are made with all-beef hot dogs and topped with chili, onions, mustard, and coleslaw. The coleslaw on top really completes the classic Carolina-style combination.
We tried quite a few things during our first visit, and everything came out hot, fresh, and delicious. We would definitely order everything we tried again, and there are still several other items on the menu we're looking forward to ordering.
We Didn't Make It to Dessert

We had every intention of trying dessert, but after everything we ordered, it wasn't happening.
We wanted to try as many different things as we could, so between the appetizers, sides, and main dishes, we ordered a lot of food. The menu has cheesecake and rice pudding, and we would have loved to try dessert, too. Our server even tried to tempt us because she knew how much we had loved everything else and was pretty sure we'd love the desserts, but we were simply too full.
I guess that gives us something to try next time.
And Then There Were the Mustaches...

While we were eating, I noticed a little kid walking around wearing a mustache. Of course, that made me wonder where the mustache came from and how we could get some.
At some point, I got up from the table, and when I came back, there were a bunch of mustaches sitting there waiting for us.
So naturally, we had to put them on.
After dinner, we headed outside with our mustaches and had a little fun in front of the restaurant. I ended up with the bright green one, which was all the more hilarious.
It was a fun ending to an already really good meal.
Don't Skip the Reviews
After we ate at The Grumpy Mustache, I spent some time reading through their Google reviews, and their responses are hilarious.
They have overwhelmingly great reviews, with only a small handful of negative ones, but their personality comes through no matter what they're responding to. They're funny with the great reviews, and when someone does leave a little criticism, they aren't afraid to have some fun with their response either.
If you have a few minutes, go read through their Google review responses. They're worth it and definitely give you a little more insight into the personality behind The Grumpy Mustache.
