Breakfast at Blueberry’s Grill in North Myrtle Beach

When we travel, some of the best restaurant recommendations come from people who actually live there. While visiting friends in the Myrtle Beach area, they took us to Blueberry’s Grill, one of their favorite places for breakfast.
I’ll admit, I don’t usually think of breakfast as something that can be particularly upscale. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, French toast. Breakfast is pretty hard to mess up. But Blueberry’s Grill surprised me.
The menu goes well beyond your typical breakfast choices, the quality of the food was excellent, and even the restaurant itself had a look and feel that made the experience a little more special. It was a little more pricey than your average breakfast, but after eating there, I could see why.
And because this location is at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, breakfast was only the beginning of our morning.
Blueberry’s Grill at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach

Blueberry’s Grill is located at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, so if you’re staying farther south in the Myrtle Beach area, you’ll need to head north to get there. How long that takes can vary quite a bit depending on exactly where you’re staying and, of course, Myrtle Beach traffic.

The Barefoot Landing location makes it especially nice because you’re not driving somewhere just to eat breakfast and then getting right back in the car. There are shops, boardwalks, water views, and plenty to walk around and explore afterward.
The restaurant was busy when we arrived, which wasn’t too surprising considering our local friends already knew and loved it.
The Atmosphere at Blueberry’s Grill

I really liked the design of this restaurant. The best way I can describe it is coastal cottage. It felt cozy and charming without feeling dark or heavy, and at the same time, it was bright, open, and airy.
The white shiplap, exposed wood beams, warm natural wood tones, creams, different shades of blue, and touches of muted teal and blue-green all worked really well together. There were also some darker wood elements that added warmth without taking away from the coastal feel.

There were lots of little details throughout the restaurant, from the lighting and blue seating to the artwork and patterned tile. Even with a full dining room, the high ceilings and open design kept it feeling bright and airy.
The exterior carries that same coastal cottage style, including the dark cedar-shingle-style siding paired with white trim and blue accents.
It was just a really aesthetically pleasing restaurant. It felt relaxed and comfortable enough for breakfast while still being a little more polished than I was expecting.
Even the Little Details Fit the Design

This may seem like such a small thing, but I even liked the glasses and coffee cups. They weren’t just generic restaurant drinkware. They fit the personality and design of the restaurant.
Speaking of the drinkware, that brings me to the fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was squeezed from actual oranges right there in the restaurant, and you could taste the difference. It was fresh, flavorful, and really good. It immediately reminded me of the amazing fresh-squeezed orange juice we had every morning during an all-inclusive stay in Cancun. Details like this are part of what took the experience beyond a typical breakfast and made it feel a little more elevated.
This Isn’t Your Basic Breakfast Menu

When I think about going out for breakfast, I usually expect the basics. You might get a few variations, but there are only so many ways you can do eggs, bacon, pancakes, and French toast.
Blueberry’s Grill had all of that, but it also had a lot of more interesting choices. There were omelettes, Benedicts, skillets, sandwiches, traditional breakfast plates, sweet breakfast dishes, and healthier options.
You could order something as simple as The Traditional, which is exactly what I did, or go in a completely different direction with something like the Blueberry Crème Brûlée French Toast, Bananas Foster & Walnuts French Toast, or Truffled Western Steak.
It felt a little more elevated than your basic breakfast menu without becoming overly complicated.
And yes, that also means it’s a little more pricey than your average breakfast restaurant. But after trying the food, I really do think you get what you pay for here.
What We Ordered

One of the best things about eating with a group is getting to try more than one thing. We all shared a little bit of each other’s food, so I got to taste several dishes instead of being limited to whatever I ordered.
And there was a lot of good food on that table.
Bananas Foster & Walnuts French Toast

I ordered the Bananas Foster & Walnuts French Toast,.
This was definitely not basic French toast. The thick French toast was topped with caramelized bananas, whipped cream, toasted candied walnuts, and warm syrup.
It was rich and sweet without being overly sweet, with the bananas and candied walnuts adding just the right amount of flavor and texture.
The Traditional

I also ordered The Traditional.
Two eggs, bacon, and home fries. Nothing fancy. Sometimes I still want a basic breakfast alongside something sweet, and this gave me exactly that.
It also says something about a restaurant when even the simple food is done well. You don’t have to order one of the more elaborate dishes to have a good breakfast here.
Blueberry Crème Brûlée French Toast

Because we were all sharing, I also got to try the Blueberry Crème Brûlée French Toast with the Blast Up, and this is already competing for what I want to order the next time we go.
This was the kind of breakfast dish I wasn’t expecting when our friends told us they were taking us out for breakfast. It was sweet, loaded with fruit and blueberry goodness, and really good.
Melted Scrambler

The Melted Scrambler was another completely different option from the menu, with scrambled eggs, cheese, smoked kielbasa sausage, ham, mushrooms, onions, bacon, and an English muffin.
It’s another good example of what I mean when I say the menu gives you more interesting choices than you might expect from a breakfast restaurant.
Truffled Western Steak

Then there was the Truffled Western Steak.
This one created a problem.
After trying it, I couldn’t decide whether I would rather order the Blueberry Crème Brûlée French Toast or go completely in the other direction and get the Truffled Western Steak next time. They’re obviously two completely different breakfasts, but both were really good. I didn't regret ordering the Bananas Foster, so I had a baseline to compare with, but part of me also wished I had ordered this dish instead because it was so freaking delicious.
I don't know which one I will order next time, the Blueberry Crème Brûlée French Toast with the Blast Up or the Truffled Western Steak. Heck, I might order both. Knowing me, I probably will.
A Breakfast Worth the Higher Price

At this point, I think it’s worth mentioning the price again because Blueberry’s Grill is definitely a little more pricey than your typical breakfast restaurant. That’s something to keep in mind, especially if you’re feeding a family.
But I also believe you get what you pay for, and in this case, I thought the quality matched the higher price.
The food was excellent, the menu offered far more variety than the basic breakfast choices you find at many restaurants, the fresh-squeezed orange juice was delicious, and the atmosphere added to the whole experience.
By the end of breakfast, I wasn’t just thinking about what I had ordered. I was already thinking about what I wanted to order the next time.
Breakfast and a Little Shopping at Barefoot Landing
Another thing I really liked about this Blueberry’s Grill location was being at Barefoot Landing. After breakfast, we could walk around, do a little shopping, and enjoy the area instead of just eating and heading straight back to the car.
There are wooden boardwalks around the water, shops scattered throughout the property, places to sit, and plenty to explore.
I didn’t make it into the Christmas Mouse this trip, and I really wish I had, so that’s already on my list for next time.
I did find a couple of ankle bracelets to bring back as little trinkets for the girls. I always like finding little things for them when I travel.
I also found a really cute Salt Life T-shirt that I ended up wearing later on a Virgin Voyages cruise.
And then I spotted Cariloha. The only other time we had shopped at Cariloha was while we were in Nassau, so it was pretty cool to unexpectedly find one at Barefoot Landing. I ended up buying a pair of black bamboo pajamas that were simple, classic, and elegant. Those came with me on that same Virgin Voyages cruise, too, when I wore them to the PJ Party.
That’s part of what I enjoyed about having breakfast here. Blueberry’s Grill was the reason we came to Barefoot Landing that morning, but afterward, we could slow down, walk around the boardwalks, browse the shops, and make a little more out of the visit.
Would I Go Back to Blueberry’s Grill?

Absolutely. Blueberry’s Grill is a little more pricey than grabbing a basic breakfast somewhere else, but I thought the quality of the food, the variety on the menu, and the atmosphere made it worth it.
I also like that the menu works whether you just want eggs, bacon, and potatoes or you’re looking for something a little more elevated. And after getting to taste several of the dishes at our table, I already know there are things I want to go back and order for myself.
Our local friends introduced us to Blueberry’s Grill, and now I understand why it’s one of their favorite breakfast spots.
